Men are checking out of work
A new study from researchers at Washington University in St. Louis found that men voluntarily worked fewer hours annually on average between 2019 and 2022 — particularly white males with college degrees and high-earning jobs. The hours women work are also declining, but not as aggressively. The researchers noted that the pandemic caused workers to reconsider their priorities and value work-life balance more highly. While college-educated men are the most likely to scale back the hours they work, a separate study found that men without a college degree are more likely to outright quit when their jobs stop presenting pay growth opportunities.
